Premier of NSW visits India

29 Oct 2012

The Premier of New South Wales, Barry O'Farrell, is in India this week on his second official visit to the country.

During the one-week trade mission Mr O'Farrell will visit Mumbai, Hyderabad and New Delhi for meetings with senior Indian government officials, business leaders and investors.

"In India I will be reinforcing the message of my visit last year – that NSW is open for business and our state is committed to a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship with India," Mr O'Farrell said.

"Bilateral merchandise trade between India and NSW was valued at $1.93 billion in 2010-11, an increase of almost 96 per cent from five years earlier. I believe there are many opportunities for further growth.

"I will be building on the relationships established last year and promoting NSW's infrastructure plan, our strengths in infrastructure and construction, education, mineral resources, financial services and ICT.

"I want to let potential investors know that NSW is a triple-A rated, stable destination for Indian investment with many opportunities across the state.

"This latest mission to India follows my successful visit to China in July and is part of the NSW Government's ongoing efforts to build productive relationships with key markets," Mr O'Farrell said.
