Beijing and NSW sign sister-state relationship

5 Aug 2012

The Premier of NSW, Mr Barry O'Farrell, and the Deputy Mayor of Beijing, Mr Wang Anshun, signed a Sister-State agreement this month.

Mr O'Farrell was in Beijing as part of his trade and investment mission to China. He also visited Guangzhou, Chengdu and Jinan.

"I am delighted that NSW and Beijing have confirmed our relationship this year – 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Australia.

"China and NSW have strong ties that continue to develop in many areas – this agreement with the capital city of China will enhance and strengthen our relationship.

"Under the agreement Beijing and NSW will work together to develop exchanges and co-operation in areas such as business, culture, education, science and technology and environmental protection to promote mutual benefit and development."
